Position Description
Job Title: Executive Director

Reports To: Board of Directors, Board President
Essential Job Duties:
The Executive Director (ED) is the Administrator of the Lake County Chamber of Commerce (Chamber). The ED is responsible for the full range of Chamber activities in accordance with the policies, procedures, and Bylaws of the Chamber. This includes coordination of the program work, organizational structure and procedures, motivation of volunteers, income and expenditures, community outreach, service and promotion, maintenance of memberships, employment, training, and supervision of staff, interpretation of policy, vision planning and maintenance of facility. This position reports to the Board of Directors (Board) for a full range of activities, including but not limited to the following:
- Develops an Annual Plan of work and administers the programs of the Chamber in cooperation with and under the direction of the Board President (President) and the Board. Oversees publication of materials that promote the Chamber in accordance with the Annual Plan.
- Maintains a working relationship, communication, and cooperation among the Board, the community, and governmental agencies to develop and promote a climate in which businesses can operate profitably.
- Manages activities related to Chamber membership including growth, retention, record keeping, providing appropriate services, and motivating members to support (both personally and financially) the Chamber’s programs. Ensures member benefits are delivered in a timely and professional manner.
- Monitors Chamber activities to assure conformance with Chamber Bylaws and policies of the Board. Assures the Chamber’s compliance with all applicable laws and regulations governing not-for-profit organizations. Maintains compliance with all Chamber policies and procedures.
- Manages, supervises, and evaluates staff and volunteers of the Chamber, which includes recruitment, screening, compensation, educational opportunities, and performance evaluations. With communication and approval of the Board.
- Participates as a non-voting member of the Board and all committees (as deemed appropriate and necessary). Prepares notices, agendas, and minutes for meetings of the Board.
- Serves as a liaison with government officials and agencies (local, state and federal), especially the Lakeview Town Council, Paisley City Council, and the Lake County Commissioners.
- Serves on Commissions, Board of Directors, etc., relating to Chamber functions and activities, with prior approval of the Board.
- Represents the Chamber in community activities and events as directed by the Board. Is responsible for the administration of events and activities in accordance with the policies and strategies of the Board.
- Represents the Chamber through professional dress, interactions, follow-through and communications.
- All Chamber programs, events and committee activities are planned and carried out with the knowledge of and approval of the Board.
- Coordinates and assists the Board Treasurer with the preparation of operating and capital budgets, monitors expenses to operate within the approved budget. Maintains the financial records and provides a report to the Board monthly. Works cooperatively with the Board Treasurer to prepare a balanced budget, to be adopted by the Board.
- Maintains media relations to foster a favorable image for the Chamber. Serves as a point of contact for the media.
- Maintains the Chamber website and social media accounts.
- Maintains strict confidentiality of proprietary information regarding members and non-members.
- Assists the Board and committees in interpretation of Chamber Bylaws, as established by the Board, in relation to any given question or program. Assist the President in preparation of statements of Chamber position on public issues.
- Maintains the records, reports, archives and other files of the Chamber.
- Manages the ongoing daily operations and maintenance of Chamber facilities.
- Pursues ongoing professional development within the framework of approved budget.
- Maintains regular office hours for the Chamber and ensures continuous staffing from open to close. Attend any required out-of-town and after-hours meetings and events.
- Performs other duties as assigned by the Board.
Education and/or Work Experience Requirements:
- High school diploma or GED required with at least two years business management and/or tourism management experience.
- Associate degree preferred.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Ability to effectively communicate with the Board, business members, vendors and customers.
- Proficiency in the use of Internet, Email, social media, Google Docs, and Microsoft Office tools (Word, Excel, Power Point, Publisher, etc.).
- Considerable working knowledge of accounting and finance as they relate to the fiscal and financial obligations of the organization, internal accounting controls, and financial analysis of revenues and expenditures. Experience with QuickBooks preferred. Proficiency with budget and financial statement preparation preferred. Must be comfortable presenting financial data to Chamber leadership.
- Possess general knowledge of business practices and operations.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with the Board, employees, committees, members, governmental units, civic groups, and the public.
- Must be able to work under pressure and meet deadlines, while maintaining a positive attitude and providing exemplary customer service.
- Must be able to work independently and take initiative.
- Must be able to multi-task and meet tight deadlines.
- Strong organization, communication, and logistical skills are necessary to manage events.
- Regular and reliable attendance expected. Must be able to travel out-of-town and attend evening and weekend meetings.
- Must present a high degree of maturity, honesty, trust, and integrity.
- Must be able to talk, listen and speak clearly on the telephone.
- Must possess a valid driver’s license.
- Must be willing to submit to a background check.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to safely and successfully perform the essential job functions consistent with the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state and local standards, including meeting qualitative and/or quantitative productivity standards.
- Ability to maintain regular, punctual attendance consistent with the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state, and local standards.
- Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 lbs.
