    Job Description
    Position: Membership Director
    Reports To: CEO
    Summary:
    Under minimal supervision, position is responsible for growing membership through membership sales to non-member businesses by communicating the benefits and value of the chamber. Prospect quality members that will renew with the chamber and that diversify our membership base.  Provide detailed information on various chamber programs and orient the member to their benefits and the chamber's marketing/advertising vehicles. 
    Also responsible for business sponsorship sales for the Tigard Farmers Market, Shining Stars Community Awards and other key events and other non-dues revenue. Responsible for strengthening relationships with current members, cultivating relationships with new members and increasing membership retention.  Expectation is that 25 hours per week is spent on new member recruitment/sponsorships and 15 hours week is spent on current member retention.

    Job Description:
    Membership & Sponsorship Sales
    • Contact, acquire and sell new Chamber memberships, Tigard Farmers Market and chamber/community event sponsorships, to businesses and organizations located throughout Tigard and the surrounding area
    • Achieve budgeted revenue goals for new member sales, upgrades, sponsorships and renewals
    • Ensure all sales processes are integrated and strategic, support strategic plan objectives and  brand position, adhere to brand standards and are an effective expenditures of resources
    • Develop research-based strategies for partnerships and sponsorship programs and opportunities
    • Cultivate and maintain an extensive knowledge of all Chamber programs, services, initiatives and activities
    • Maintain accurate statistics and data on return on sales and retention plans and associated activities and programs
    • Closely monitor industry trends and local issues impacting the Chamber’s membership sales efforts
    • Process payments in ChamberMaster for membership dues, sponsorships, and other chamber related revenue
    • Attend and assist with member functions conducted by the department.  
    Membership Retention:
    • Creates membership retention systems to meet monthly and annual member retention goals.
    • Interacts daily with members in person, phone, email and social media to encourage engagement and use of membership benefits.
    • Help coordinate and administer member benefit packages, including development and maintenance of all benefits.
    • Works with Tigard Chamber volunteers to increase quantity and quality of member touch.
    • Tracks and reports on metrics to evaluate retention programs and recommends changes.
    • Perform administrative duties associated with sales and servicing of members and prospects, including managing database changes to ChamberMaster.
    Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, Education:
    • 3-5 years of previous membership/association sales or business to business sales/business development experience required.
    • Must have/maintain a dependable vehicle.
    • Degree in Marketing, Communication, or Business preferred
    • Must be dependable and reliable, responsive to time-sensitive deadlines and issues, high attention to details, sensitivity for confidential matters.
    • Highly developed verbal and written communication skills.
    • Ability to prospect/cold-call new businesses and to upgrade and sell major accounts.
    • Comfortable developing proposals and plans and presenting to individuals at all levels in a business organization (small business owner to CEO).
    • Comfortable speaking in front of groups of up to 60, and in front of a camera, including but not limited to Facebook Live.
    • Actively support and participate in chamber functions.
    • Professional demeanor, ability to represent the chamber and its members in a professional and positive manner.
    • Ability to coordinate effectively with a wide variety of people representing diverse professions and organizations. 
     
    General Work Environment
    • Work Environment - Duties will be performed in Chamber’s office and at prospect/member locations during regular business hours 8 a.m. – 5 p.m. Some travel, work off-site will be required, as well as occasional work on evenings, weekends and/or holidays.
    • Computer skills – Windows, Microsoft Office Professional Suite (Excel, Word and PowerPoint in particular), ability to quickly learn new technology and software applications, comfort with mobile devices and mobile technology including selfies with members and Facebook Live.  Constant Contact and Social media skills a plus
    • Office Equipment - Familiarity with basic office equipment including computers, server, copier and merchant services machine necessary.
    Physical Requirements
    Ability to lift a minimum of 30 pounds.  Frequent standing and sitting depending on environment.  Ability to climb stairs as office is located on a second floor with no elevator access.

    Compensation – DOE and sales goal performance/achievement
    • Base salary $30-36K (DOE) + Commission ($18-20K with potential for higher)
    • Benefits include health & dental coverage for employee, PTO, mileage, partial cell phone reimbursement, paid holidays, professional development, 401K.
