• OSCC Daily Legislative Update – June 21, 2017

We are going to move to a quick daily update to keep you informed in the waning days of the 2017 legislature.  There is so much happening – all at a very fast pace – that we believe it will be more of a service to you to keep you apprised of developments and rumors on a daily basis.

    What’s happening:

    1. We now believe that Senator Hass has abandoned a gross receipts tax proposal.  HOWEVER, watch for the House Revenue Committee to act independently and try move a tax proposal as early as today. Today’s House Revenue Committee meeting at 1pm will be very telling.
    2. We now believe that HB 2064 – the bill that would allow for expanded use of TRT funds – is dead. We’d be surprised to see this pop up again.
    3. Our understanding as of last night is that a major agreement was reached on a transportation package (HB 2017). Details have not yet emerged but we know the key players came to consensus.
    4. We also know that Senate Democrat/Republican negotiations yielded a significant list of bills that will not be moving forward, clearing the way for the legislature to start it’s process of closing down.

    What to watch for today:
Clearly the actions of the House Revenue Committee are going to be the most telling. We are paying close attention to HB 3469, HB 2060 and HB 2061 that popped up on today’s docket.

    OSCC Activity:
Please keep the correspondence coming in opposition to HB 2830 – the gross receipts tax plan.  We should not change our approach until its clear that legislative leaders are changing directions on a tax plan.
